MetaDesign sponsors new brand identity for Berlin & Beyond Film Festival

Berlin & Beyond Festival San Francisco

MetaDesign, a global branding agency, has sponsored the development of a new brand platform and visual identity for the Berlin & Beyond Film Festival in San Francisco. The new look aims to inspire film enthusiasts to attend the event.

Now in its 16th year, Berlin & Beyond has featured more than 500 films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland to over 110,000 filmgoers. As the host of the festival, the San Francisco branch of the Goethe Institut offers audiences a glimpse of the diversity, heritage and development of movie-making in the German-speaking world.

Sophoan Sorn, the festival director for Berlin & Beyond, commented, “Our project collaboration with MetaDesign was illuminating and rewarding. From our engaging strategy discussions and brainstorming sessions, we were able to reflect on and grasp the core essence of who we are and how we want to be seen in our local community and in the wide-ranging international film industry.”

The concept of the new brand design highlights the curating and gathering of films; the yellow and black colors reflect spirit and creativity. The new identity was developed for all aspects of the festival communication and implemented across all touchpoints.

Stan Zienka, creative director at MetaDesign San Francisco, said, “We recognized our client’s need for a dynamic brand system that offers longevity, yet is flexible enough to support future Berlin & Beyond Film Festival themes. The new image marries creativity and spirit, which is what Berlin & Beyond represents.”

MetaDesign’s creation of this new brand identity is an example of the firm’s international commitment to the arts. This sponsorship for the Berlin & Beyond Film Festival is also an expression of the bond between Zürich and San Francisco as sister cities.

The Berlin & Beyond Film Festival will be held from 20–26 October 2011 in the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, and on 29 October in Camera 12 in San Jose.
