Launched in 2005, Current TV is a cable and satellite network and Web platform uniquely produced and programmed in collaboration with its 18-34 year-old target audience. The network was founded by former Vice President Al Gore and entrepeneur Joel Hyatt as a unique experiment in citizen journalism, allowing viewers to submit three-to-seven minute, video "pods" of news and information.

Current needed a distinctive visual identity to reflect its departure from the contemporary media landscape. As a multimedia network, Current also required an identity that would render well online, on television and in print. MetaDesign selected a blinking cursor motif for Current's logo. The cursor symbolizes "awaiting input" in the world of computing, signaling the responsiveness and dynamism of a network powered by citizen journalism.
