Sound Professor Carl-Frank Westermann founds WESOUND and works together with MetaDesign

Carl-Frank Westermann, creative director for sound branding at MetaDesign since 2000, Germany’s leading agency for corporate identity and branding, is opening a new chapter of his career. He has set up his own agency for sound branding in Berlin and Hamburg: WESOUND. WESOUND and MetaDesign have agreed on wide-ranging strategic cooperation.

The graduate in business management and musician created strategic sound branding together with MetaDesign and supported clients such as Siemens, Lufthansa, Volkswagen and Allianz. His team’s work has won numerous prizes, eg red dot communication design awards for Lufthansa, Audi, real and Commerzbank. The sound branding for Allianz won an Effie Award.

Westermann, an ex member of the German post-punk band Fehlfarben, co-founded the “Sound Studies” masters degree studies at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he now heads the “auditory brand communication” faculty as a visiting professor.

The controlling interest of the newly founded private company is in Westermann’s hands. Other renowned managers include Andreas Arntzen, long-term media manager of the publishing group Georg von Holtzbrink (managing Zeitverlags and Handelsblatt etc) and manager of the Madsack media group etc.

“Brands that use sound as a strategic instrument of communication will be more successful in the long term. Sound branding sharpens the brand profile”, states Westermann.

“Together with Carl-Frank Westermann, MetaDesign has pioneered a new business segment, in which numerous specialists have now established themselves. By founding a sound branding company Carl-Frank Westermann and his flexible team can react more efficiently to market requirements and address new client groups independently of MetaDesign. At the same time MetaDesign has secured exclusive cooperation with one of the best sound branding experts in Germany and his in-depth know-how”, commented Prof. Uli Mayer-Johanssen, chairwoman of MetaDesign.

We are already cooperating on our first project together.
